Hurricanes Vs Tornadoes

The table shows the features between hurricanes and tornadoes.

Firstly, hurricanes have 74 mph minimum wind speed and 155-200 mph maximum wind speed of most severe storms, while tornadoes have 40 mph minimum wind speed and the maximum wind speed of most severe storms 250-300 mph. The classification scale of hurricanes is the Saffir-Simpson C1-C5. In contrast to tornadoes which are measured on the Fujita F0-F5. The time period of a hurricane is one week average while the time period of tornadoes only lasts a few minutes, some up to a few hours. The average width of tornadoes is 100-600 meters – some up to 1.5 km wide. One the other hand the average width of hurricanes is 300 miles. Tornadoes usually start over land while hurricanes start over warm oceans. Hurricanes can be predicted 2-3 days in advance and sometimes 6-10 hours. In contrast tornadoes can be predicted only 20 minutes or less in advance.

Finally, tornadoes and hurricanes are both awesome forms of wind power that represent nature at her most dangerous.
